Walter P. Bouman


Walter retired in November of 2000, as a Sergeant with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, after 33 years in law enforcement. He is an instructor for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Academy in Hate Crimes, Domestic Terrorism, and Hate Groups. He has been involved in the investigation and training in the subject of hate crimes, domestic terrorism and hate groups for over fourteen years. He has taught or consulted in hate crimes or hate groups all over the United States. He is a graduate of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center's Star Program Train the Trainer in Hate Crimes. He has been a cadre member of the Federal Star Program Hate/Bias Crime Team for the past two years.

Walt has an Associate of Arts Degree in Police Science, and a California Life Time Teaching Credential in Police Administration. He is associated with the following organizations:

Walter holds the following California Peace Officers Standards and Training certificates: Basic Post, Intermediate Post, Advanced Post and Supervisory Post. He has attended the Post Sergeant Leadership Institute and the National Interagency Civil-Military Institute (NICI) class on Preparing for and Managing the Consequences of Terrorism.
